Abstract Cultivar BRS A706 CL is a new rice cultivar, resistant to herbicides of the chemical group of imidazolinones, with a yield potential of 15,635 kg ha-1. It has intermediate maturation, lodging tolerance, the stay green trait, moderate rice blast resistance, a high milling yield and premium grain quality.

Abstract BRS A502 is an upland rice cultivar with a medium cycle, high resistance to lodging, superior yield potential and grains of excellent industrial and cooking quality. The cultivar is indicated for crop rotation and succession in areas under intensive agriculture in the main field crop regions of Brazil.

Abstract BRS A501 CL is the first upland rice cultivar with tolerance to the broad-spectrum herbicide Kifix®. It has a medium-length cycle, high stability of whole grain yield at processing, good disease tolerance and a high grain yield.

A produtividade de grãos de 100 linhagens de feijoeiro foi avaliadana presença e ausência de fertilizante nitrogenado visando identificar aquelascom maior eficiência no uso de nitrogênio (EUN) e estimar a respostacorrelacionada em ambientes sob baixa disponibilidade de nitrogênio, pelaseleção efetuada sem o estresse do nutriente. Estimaram-se os índices deresposta à aplicação de nitrogênio e os parâmetros genéticos e fenotípicos. Namédia dos locais, a produtividade de grãos obtida com N foi 39, 5% acima daobtida sem N, correspondendo a 8, 3 kg de grãos por kg de N aplicado. A EUNvariou entre as linhagens. As linhagens BP-16, CVII-85-11, BP-24, Ouro Negro eMA-IV-15-203 foram as mais eficientes e responsivas. É possível obter sucessocom a seleção em ambientes com e sem estresse de nitrogênio, contudo a seleçãode linhagens para ambientes sob baixa disponibilidade de nitrogênio deve serrealizada preferencialmente nesta condição.

Grain productivities of 100 bean lines were evaluated in the presence and absence of nitrogen fertilizer in order to identify those with high nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) and to determine the correlated response observed in a stressed environment following selection in a non-stressed environment. The genetic and phenotypic characteristics of the lines, as wellas the response index to applied nitrogen, were determined. The average grain productivities at both locations were 39.5% higher in the presence of nitrogen fertilizer, with 8.3 kg of grain being produced per kg of nitrogen applied. NUE varied greatly between lines. Lines BP-16, CVII-85-11, BP-24, Ouro Negro and MA-IV-15-203 were the most efficient and responsive. The results showed that it is possible to select bean lines in stressed and non-stressed environments. It was inferred that common bean lines for environments with low nitrogenav ailability should preferably be selected under nitrogen stress.

Com o objetivo de se avaliar as exigências nutricionais e o efeito da omissão de nutrientes no crescimento de mudas de cedro australiano (Toona ciliata M. Roem var. australis), foi realizado um experimento em casa de vegetação. Utilizou-se como substrato um Latossolo Vermelho Distroférrico, com baixa disponibilidade de nutrientes, utilizando-se 15 tratamentos, sob a técnica do elemento faltante. Foram aplicados dois tratamentos completos (um com fornecimento de N, P, K, S, B, Cu, Zn e aplicação de calcário e outro com o fornecimento de N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu e Zn, sem a aplicação de calcário), além da omissão de cada nutriente (-N, -P, -K, -Ca, -Mg, -S, -B, -Cu e -Zn), um tratamento com omissão conjunta de B, Cu e Zn, um tratamento com aplicação apenas de calcário, um tratamento com aplicação de N, P, K, S, B, Cu e Zn, sem aplicação de calcário e uma testemunha absoluta (solo natural). Foram avaliadas as seguintes características: altura, diâmetro, matéria seca da parte aérea e das raízes, e teor de nutrientes na matéria seca da parte aérea, ao final de 150 dias. As plantas de cedro australiano apresentam elevada exigência nutricional, sendo que os nutrientes P, N, S, Ca, K, Mg e Cu, nessa ordem, foram limitantes ao crescimento das plantas. A omissão de B e Zn não afetou o crescimento das plantas. A aplicação de calcário foi essencial para o desenvolvimento das plantas de cedro australiano. O aparecimento dos primeiros sintomas de deficiência foi decorrente da omissão de: S, calcário e N.

In order to evaluate nutritional requirements and the effect of nutrient deprivation on the development of seedlings of Australian cedar (Toona ciliata M. Roem var. australis), a greenhouse experiment was conducted. The substrate used was a dystroferric red latosol with low nutrient availability, using 15 treatments and applying the missing element technique. The experiment included two complete treatments (one provided N, P, K, S, B, Cu, Zn with limestone while another provided N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu and Zn without limestone), besides deprivation of each nutrient (-N, -P, -K, -Ca, -Mg, -S, -B, -Cu and -Zn), one treatment with combined deprivation of B, Cu and Zn, one treatment applying limestone only, one treatment applying N, P, K, S, B, Cu and Zn, without limestone, and one absolute control treatment (natural soil). The following characteristics were evaluated: height, diameter, shoot dry matter and root dry matter, and nutrient content in the shoot dry matter after 150 days. Australian cedar plants have high nutritional requirements, and nutrients P, N, S, Ca, K, Mg and Cu, in that order, were found to be limiting factors to plant development. B and Zn deprivation did not affect plant development. Limestone application was essential for the development of Australian cedar plants. Initial deficiency symptoms were found to be the result of S, limestone and N deprivation.

Visando a estudar a associação das frações nitrogenadas nas folhas e a eficiência no uso de nitrogênio (EUN) em feijoeiro (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), foram avaliadas 12 linhagens na presença e ausência do nutriente, em três locais no sul de Minas Gerais. Em cada local, experimentos distintos, com e sem aplicação de nitrogênio, foram instalados no delineamento em blocos casualizados (DBC), com três repetições. As parcelas foram constituídas por uma linha de três metros de comprimento. Avaliou-se a produtividade de grãos (kg ha-1), os teores de N-total nas folhas e nos grãos, e as frações do N-total nas folhas (N-solúvel, N-NO3-, N-insolúvel e Norgânico solúvel). A produtividade média de grãos com a aplicação de nitrogênio foi 63,7% superior à obtida sem o nutriente. As linhagens ESAL 629 e MA-I-2.5 apresentaram as maiores produtividades de grãos em todos os locais e níveis de N, e também foram mais eficientes em relação à EUN. Os teores de nitrato foram maiores sem a aplicação de N, e, por outro lado, as demais frações de N e do N-total na folhas e nos grãos foram mais elevadas quando houve o fornecimento de nitrogênio. Não se constatou boa associação entre os teores de N-total e as frações de N nas folhas com a EUN entre as linhagens estudadas; contudo, nas linhagens ESAL 629 e MA-I-2.5 houve evidências de que as frações de N e N-total nas folhas poderiam explicar a sua maior EUN.

Twelve bean lineages (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in the presence and absence of nitrogen in three places in the south of Minas Gerais were evaluated aiming to study the relationship between nitrogen fractions in leaves and the efficiency of nitrogen usage in the bean crop. In each place, distinct experiments with and without nitrogen application were installed using randomized blocks design, with three replications. The parcels were constituted by three-meter-long lines. Grain productivity (kg ha-1), amounts of total N in leaves and grains, and total N in leaf fractions (soluble-N, NO3--N, insoluble-N, and soluble organic-N) were evaluated. The average of grain productivity with nitrogen application was 63.7% higher than the productivity without this nutrient. The ESAL 629 and MA-I-2.5 presented higher grain productivities in all places and in all N levels and they were also more efficient in relation to N usage. The nitrate levels had higher values without N application than with it, and, on the other hand, the other fractions of N and total-N in leaves and grains presented higher values when there was nitrogen addition instead of absence of it. There was no good relationship between amounts of total-N and N fractions in leaves, and efficiency of N usage among the studied lineages; however, in the case of ESAL 629 and MA-I-2.5 there were evidences that the N fractions and total-N in leaves could explain their higher efficiency of N usage.

Visando à identificação de linhagens de feijão que sejam tolerantes ao estresse de nitrogênio (N) e que também apresentem resposta positiva a esse nutriente, foram avaliadas 100 linhagens em presença e ausência de N em cobertura, em quatro ambientes. Em cada ambiente, foram dois experimentos distintos com e sem N, no delineamento látice triplo 10x10, sendo a parcela constituída de uma linha de três metros de comprimento. Utilizando a produtividade média de grãos, foi estimado o índice de eficiência de utilização de nitrogênio. Na média dos quatro ambientes, a produtividade de grãos obtida com N foi 12% acima da obtida sem N. Decompondo o efeito de níveis para cada linhagem, em 77% delas não houve resposta à adubação nitrogenada em cobertura. Assim, apenas 22 linhagens responderam positivamente à adubação nitrogenada e, entre elas, a eficiência na utilização de N variou de 11,3 a 18,3kg de grãos por kg de N aplicado.

It was evaluated 100 breeding lines of common bean in the presence and absence of N in cover in four conditions aiming at identifing the lines of beans which would be tolerant to nitrogen (N) stress and/or also responsive to this nutrient. In each condition there were two distinct experiments with and without N, in a 10 x 10 triple lattice design, being the plot constituted by a line with three meters of length. It was estimated the index of efficiency of nitrogen utilization, through the average grains yield. The obtained yield with N was 12% above the one without N, in the average of the four conditions. By decomposing the effect of levels for each line, in 77% of them there was no answer to the nitrogen fertilization in cover. This, only 22 lines positively responded to nitrogen fertilization and among them the efficiency of N utilization ranged from 11.3 to 18.3kg of grains per kg of applied N.
